I would always want to be posted here, in the midst of dunes – the dunes with their wild and salty grass like dirty hair – factories, roller coaster, parkings, mini golf and abandoned pubs. The North sea doesn’t seem to have an horizon. It is gobbled up by the grey sky and the brown water. No fishes anymore, but sand. Did you ever notice the dozens of little bugs that bounce when your sole touches the dunes? Barely have you brushed the first grain of sand that their minuscule legs have already taken off. Great Yarmouth is a town in the East of England. I only ever went there on Sundays, it has always been grey and cold. Once a thriving herring port and popular seaside resort, the fishing industry has dramatically declined, bringing a loss of business and unemployment. Other problems, such as coastal erosion, add to this rather grim picture. Through a photographic series and extracts from a 1866’s guide book, the project, between documentary and fiction, explores the contrasts between past and present whilst wondering about the town’s possible future.
