Montreal urban restructuration impacts the new generations of creatives.
more... In Hochelaga, a post-industrial neighborhood of Montreal, Canada, the Moreau lofts building was one of the main spaces dedicaded to an alternative lifestyle in the city. In the huge open spaces divided by makeshift walls, the Moreau lofts tenants lived outside of the conventional model. For that alternative community, sharing was a way to challenge the consumerist culture and the limited redistribution of wealth. The future was uncertain but everyone was standing together. The inhabitants of the lofts were creatives and commited citizens. In September 2013, they have been foreclosed by the municipal authorities of Montreal. The official reason was that the lofts did not respond to the municipality standard. One year later the 38 units have been renovated and turned into more expensive studios.
