Documenting a Stranger
How do we know who others are?
more... Documenting a Stranger
Each and every one of us instinctively shows our self with a personality depending on who is watching us, trying to display our best appearance. We all dissimulate the majority of our thoughts, feelings and reflection. Our inside life, which defines our profound nature, remains unknown to others.
It does not matter who faces us, or how well we might know him or her, what we see is the mask they have chosen to reveal to us. The important and secret sides remain hidden and true identity is impenetrable.
Therefore, how do we know who others are?
To represent this duality which we all carry, I have made two portraits of the same person, each one evoking different sides of her. I have then interpreted them separately in order to determine - subjectively - what defines the protagonist’s nature. Documenting a Stranger, Part One presents this character’s first psychological portrait. I have collected and associated different evocative images which, as a whole, enable the understanding of identity. The viewer is then capable of interpretation on the subject’s inner life.
As this person’s different masks are revealed, human duality appears
