PARIS, France

Gilles Mercier is a photographer who very soon opted to live “the part of me where I am not” Having acquired a Law degree, he heightened his artistic sensibilities by working with artists and reporters whilst remaining under the influence of Lee Friedlander, Gary Winogrand and Bernard Deschamps. He is self-taught and committed to the medium of photography and to the Lumen Collective. Having decided upon this path, he moved to Paris to complete his formal technical training with the Iris Centre. There, his talents were noticed by Mr Drouet, the director of the reportage department of the Explorer agency. Gilles Mercier currently works on multiple institutional orders and as the photographic assistant to AC Barbier. Following diverse photographic exhibitions, it was his work in reportage that directed him towards social action. Currently director of a social housing unit, he is reinvesting in his medium.
